SVS subwoofers have always represented great value for money, offering a high level of performance at affordable prices for serious and semi-serious home theatre enthusiasts. The new 17 R|EVOLUTION and 5000 R|EVOLUTION that replaced the old 16 ULTRA and 4000 Series provided a huge step forward, making SVS a serious contender in the high end stakes as well as the budget and mid-price sectors. Now, the 3000 Series gets the R|EVOLUTION treatment - welcome the new SVS 3000 R|EVOLUTION subwoofers!.
I've always felt that the 3000 Series represented the best value for money range within the SVS ranges, the sweet spot, where performance starts to get serious, making them ideal for those who want to create an impressive home theatre system. Now they're even better.
So what does the new 3000 R|EVOLUTION range offer?

AMPLIFICATION
The STA800D2 amp plate of the outgoing 3000 Series provided a continuous 800w and 2500w peak output. The new STA1200D2 amp increases continuous output by 50% to 1200w, with 4000w peak output!
This extra output helps the 3000 series dig deeper than ever before, with more authority than before, maintaining higher output for longer periods of time, ideal for those relentless action movies that never seem to let up.
DRIVERS
The drivers used in the new 3000 Series aren't too dissimilar to the ones that were newly introduced for the outgoing 3000 Series. 12" long throw for the sealed and ported 3000 models, and dual opposed long throw 8" drivers for the Micro model.
APP
The new models retain the existing control app which is available for phones and tablets, allowing the user to change settings on the fly from the comfort of their listening position. Three presets allowed user configurable settings for different uses - multi-channel movies, mono movies, stereo music listening, or even tuning for different styles of film such as drama and action.
ROOM EQ
The new R|EVOLUTION subwoofers now offer digital room correction, allowing the measuring and automatic correction of their output to better suit the room. This can be used with an external microphone, or can be as simple as using your phone's microphone for a quick, simple set up. This is not only good news for home theatre enthusiasts, but particularly for those who use SVS subwoofers in two-channel stereo setups. The app can control multiple subs individually.

SUMMARY
With their continuous efforts to further performance, SVS remain kings of commercially available, affordable subwoofers, with a model to suit every situation - whether ultra-compact for small listening spaces, huge output for large spaces, or even discrete in-wall options for invisible sub bass.
I've had the outgoing 3000 Micro at home in my own system for a few weeks to play with a couple of years ago. For its size, it exceeded all expectations. I don't play at Reference Level, but intentionally watching some very bass heavy films, it never struggled or ran out of steam even when I expected it to. I winced a few times, knowing there was some serious cone excursion about to ensue, but it didn't complain once. It did everything it was asked, and continually surprised me with its depth capabilities for such a small box.
